MIDDLETON, Wis. (WMTV/Gray News) - Police confirmed two children were among three individuals who were found dead inside an apartment in Wisconsin over the weekend.
Middleton Police Department confirmed that two children, along with an unidentified adult, were found dead in the 6300 block of Maywood Avenue Sunday night.
According to police, officers were investigating an unrelated check property complaint when a man came out of a different home and told police he had been shot. The man was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition as of Monday.
Authorities entered the home the man had left and found three people inside who were dead. The report noted there is no known danger to the public and that the case is an active homicide investigation.
Middleton police stated in an update Tuesday that the two children were students at Sauk Trail Elementary School.
The ages and names of the students were not released out of respect for the family, officials explained.
“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of all of those impacted by this tragic incident,” the department stated.
Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District stated Monday that it learned of a “devastating situation” that happened over the weekend involving the sudden loss of two elementary school students.
“We are heartbroken by this information and understand that this will affect our District community in many different ways,” the district stated on Monday. “During this difficult time, we extend our deepest condolences to the impacted family, students, and staff who were close to the victims. Their loss is immeasurable.”
The district noted resources would be made available for those who are affected by the sudden deaths.
