Two LDS youth from Utah County were victorious at the United States National DanceSport Championships held at Brigham Young University's Marriott Center in Provo, Utah March 13-15.
Casey Treu, 17, of the Northridge 4th Ward, Orem Utah Northridge Stake, and Jenna Johnson, 15, of the Meadow Wood Ward, Provo Utah Edgemont Stake placed first in the Youth Latin Championship, and third in the Youth Standard Championship, and were named Ten Dance champions, as the top couple to master all ten required dances in both the Standard and Latin disciplines.
"We completely surpassed our goals," Casey said. "I was speechless when I found out that we had won the Ten Dance title. It was incredible."
The duo beat couples from all over the United States thanks to countless hours of practice.
"There were very talented dancers from all over the country at this competition," Jenna said. "Once I realized how well we had done I was shocked."
Casey and Jenna enjoyed performing in front of a large contingent of family and friends.
"It was very unique and special to perform in front of a bunch of friends and family," Casey said.
"The crowd helped us a lot," Jenna said. "It's great to hear your friends and family cheering for you."
The couple plans to continue dancing in the future at BYU, which has the premier ballroom dance program in the country, according to the pair.
"I'm looking forward to dancing at BYU and then professionally someday," Jenna said.
