On behalf of the hundreds of people (including kupuna and keiki) who use the Kihei Aquatic Center pool, we wish to thank first-term Council Member Tom Cook for responding to the extreme need to repair the concrete benches used by pool attendees.
The benches were literally falling apart, with large pieces of concrete coming off the benches, exposing dangerous iron rebar that could have severely cut the legs of those using the benches.
In addition, a sidewalk leading to the pool had a large hole in it that created a hazard and danger of tripping and falling.
When asked, Cook put money in the Maui County budget to fix the benches and sidewalk, and the Parks and Recreation Department then moved quickly to solve the problems.
For those who believe that government cannot solve any problems, Cook said, “Yes we can,” and proved it with not just words but deeds.
Good job, Council Member Cook.
