Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews tended to an in-flight medical emergency on Thursday.

Aboard a Southwest Airlines flight from Baltimore to Phoenix, Andrews instructed medical personnel to use a blood glucose monitor on a passenger suffering from “extremely” low blood pressure, according to X user Andrew Springs. Staff were unable to find a strong pulse.

The tight end asked whether the traveler’s blood sugar was low and prompted personnel to stabilize her heart rate, according to Springs.

Andrews confirmed the incident in a statement to The National Desk.

In addition to the fast-acting flight attendants, the real heroes are the nurse and doctor who also happened to be on the plane,” Mark Andrews told The National Desk in a statement. “Thankfully, they were able to provide the woman the quick assistance she needed.”

Paramedics received the passenger upon the plane’s landing in Phoenix, a Southwest spokesperson told The National Desk.

“As he has done his whole career, he stepped up in a huge moment when people needed him most,” Springs wrote of Andrews. “Watching complete strangers spring into action to help save someone’s life is truly amazing.”

Southwest declined to corroborate Springs’s account due to privacy concerns.

“Because of customer privacy policies we are not able to share additional details, though as always, we are appreciative of the efforts of our crew, medical personnel, and fellow customers who assist others during these inflight situations,” the airline stated.
